The newest object of the Giants’ interest is apparently Jacksonville safety Deon Grant.
Not a bad guy to go after. The safety was a ballhawk in his time with the Panthers and Jaguars. He had two interceptions this year for the Jaguars. The free safety may still re-sign with the Jags, but the Giants need to do something about their secondary.
Another defensive back they might be going after is cornerback Dre Bly, recently traded from the Lions to the Broncos. Washington is currently in the running for him, too, though the Broncos are said to be high on him. That might just be GM-speak for “it’ll take a first-day pick to get him,” something Jerry Reese has already said he’d be reluctant to part with for almost anybody. Bly’s old, having been in the league since 1999 with St. Louis. But he’s still got something left in the tank, as seen by his three picks this year in Detroit.
According to reports, Bly would rather play in Washington because it’s closer to his home in Chesapeake, Va.
The Giants have also made contact with San Diego linebacker Donnie Edwards, who had 144 tackles last year, but no visit has been planned. And Rams wide receiver Kevin Curtis reportedly arrived tonight and will meet tomorrow with the Giants without an agent. That’s a situation that bears watching.
As for the Dominic Rhodes situation, he’s making visits. The Giants would love to have him, but won’t go far beyond their price. They understand that if somebody is willing to give Rhodes a pickup truck full of greenbacks, they’ll let him get away.
The Giants are still working on trying to get Eagles cornerback Roderick Hood in. But he visited New Orleans today, and the numbers the Giants were talking about may be too low for his liking.
And so it goes.
Ciao for now.

Can we trade Strahan for Bly?
Goodness! The anti-Mike sentiment is almost overwhelming.
No LB yet. No DB yet. No RB yet, and
Feely is let go. Things are looking
down so far in the Swamp.
Maybe Reese will have the Giants playing
Flag Football this season.
