Evening Practice

For all the talking Tom Coughlin did about wanting a high-intensity practice this evening, he still send the troops out in shells and shorts. That didn’t prevent a few players from laying a bit of wood out there.
Backup linebacker Zak DeOssie had a major collision with RB Derrick Ward, with Ward seemingly getting the worst of it. Good thing to see out of the tough-minded DeOssie, who’s old man Steve was just as hard-nosed.
Starting guard Chris Snee drew some short, angry words from safety James Butler after a tough downfield block, and third-down back candidate/longshot Decori Birmingham made a nice, hard blitz pickup on linebacker James Davis.
Best throw of the night came in the second team drill when Tim Hasselbeck released quickly under pressure to find WR Marco Thomas with a strike in the deep middle. Another wide receiver hopeful, Kevin McMahan, made a nice catch against corner Travonti Johnson off a deep Anthony Wright throw as Wright sensed the pressure up the middle.
Also give credit to safety Richard Yancy, who caught a carom off Gerrick McPhearson on his breakup of a throw to McMahan that was borderline pass interference. That could be the longshot Yancy’s lone shining moment of this camp.
Jay Alford, Jonas Seawright, and William Joseph all recorded would-be sacks. Gibril Wilson had a goal line interception of an Eli Manning pass that went way wide of Jeremy Shockey. Justin Tuck batted down Jared Lorenzen’s pass in the Red Zone drill, and Moss ended it all by making a nice catch in the end zone corner off Manning’s lob from the 15.
That’s it. Back to Westchester for the rest of the week until gametime Saturday.
Ciao for now.
