Morning Jog-Through

Mean old Tom Coughlin threw his team a huge bone by turning practice on this hot, muggy, totally ugly and icky morning into a no-pads jog-through. It lasted until all of 10 a.m., which gave the players a nice, eight-hour gap to rest and study until this evening’s 6:10 p.m. practice.
Coughlin said he expects to work his team hard tonight. But after a good workout yesterday afternoon, he felt this morning was an opportunity to go easy on yesterday’s participants while, at the same time, incorporating some of the younger and injured players into packages they wouldn’t take part in under normal practice conditions. That’s why we saw Plaxico Burress out there on his sprained ankle.
“I wanted to take some of the young guys and injured guys and get them involved in some things they can do so they can stay involved from a learning standpoint,” Coughlin said. “I took the pads off them, and went at it in a jog-through pace, hoping that some of the learning can sink in. We did a lot with blitz packages on both sides of the ball.
“I’m hoping tonight we can have a good practice with good speed and enthusiasm.”
The growing injury list also had something to do with it.
“We’ve had a guy come out every practice with some kind of strain in the leg area,” Coughlin said. “I’d like to get some of those guys back so we can start to count on who is playing and how he’ll be used Saturday night.”
Cross off for the Carolina game LS Ryan Kuehl (calf), LB Gerris Wilkinson (knee), C Todd Londot (ankle), DT Fred Robbins (calf) unless he makes marked improvement, and WR Amani Toomer (knee).
There were some eye-openers from the jog-through, however.
Coughlin called for a fake punt, snapping it short to James Butler, who ran through the right side. WR Michael Jennings also made a nice, reaching catch of Anthony Wright’s high throw in traffic.
Jennings, R.W. McQuarters, Sinorice Moss, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Toomer all worked at punt return.
Back with the evening notes later.
Ciao for now.

I hope this doesn’t turn out to be a repeat of last year’s injury-riddled team. Do they have the same conditioning coach? Did did they make a move to fix the problem?
