Parking Issues

August
14

Any of you guys have parking issues with the off-site lots last Saturday?

We spoke to Giants Stadium operations consultant Bill Squires today, and he said most of the complaints—especially the ones about being ferried to the stadium only moments before kickoff—were caused by people leaving for the game late. Now, no excuses here. But if a half-filled stadium can cause those kinds of headaches, imagine what things might be like when 76,000 show up for the regular season.

Anyway, Squires recommended three things to help alleviate things. Carpool, mass transit, and leaving early. If, say, you leave for a 1 p.m. game at 10 a.m., you might want to adjust that to 9:30.

Otherwise, Squires admitted there really are no solutions to the problems. He’ll be adding some extra signage to help direct people to the buses that will leave them off closest to their cars. But other than that, it is what it is. Losing 5,000 spaces to the construction of the new stadium is simply going to cause problems, and those without pre-paid parking permits are going to have to deal with them for the next three years.

All tales of parking nightmares are welcome here, as well as suggestions we might pass along. Keep it clean. Keep it rational. But feel free to vent.

Ciao for now.

I went to the game saturday night and it was absolutely awful and this was with what 30,000 fans. We had prepaid parking in lot 15 and came in off the Turnpike exit as usual. We were routed around the Stadium, underneath construction and then looped back out toward Route 3. We were the luck ones-because were were then sent over to lot 15. People who did not have prepaid looked to me that they got routed BACK ONTO Rt3! It took s us about a 1/2 hr to get into our lot area after reaching the Stadium.

This is going to be a nightmare when the season starts and there are another 45,000 people at the games. This clown Squires has gotta come out of the ivory tower. All his solutions suck.

If you don;t have prepaid parking-you get sent to an off site lot where there is according to the Giant website “abolsutely no tailgaiting allowed”. So if I get there at 10am what am I supposed to do for 3 hours?

He talks about mass transit-yea and how to you do that from rockland County. beleive me I’ve looked at the Giant website and it shows you nothing other than a link to NJ transit which is another joke. Ask him how exactly how I can take a train or bus from someplace in rockland or even over the border in Montavale and get to Giants Stadium because i can’t find it.

Last rant-I was talking to one of the workers in the stadium and they said the lines for shuttle buses after the Live earth concerts were outrageous with waits of 2 housr to shuttle people back to the offsite lots.

for the Giants to traet their loyal fans in this way it is just ridculous. Ask this clown Squires for real solutions not just the PR crap they want to run down our throats!

Ernie-thanks I feel much better now!

DID THE GAME SATURDAY NIGHT. SHUTTLE WASN’T TO BAD.BUT PAYING 20 BUCKS TO BE PUT INTO OLD SMELLY SCHOOL BUSSES.THEN TO WAIT AFTER THE GAME WITH DRUNK,PISSED OFF FANS? I DON’T THINK SO.

parking was a nightmare. route 3 did not move for a couple of miles before and just beyond the stadium. i left yonkers at 6:15. that should have been ample time to get to a lot 2 miles from Giants Stadium. I have been a season tiket holder for 47 years giving me a sense of when to leave for the game. I missed the kick off and over 5 minutes of game time. the parking lot people were friendly and courteous. $20 to park is rediculous. school buses were absurd. they herded fans to the buses through some kind of plastic netting at the end of the game. it was torn down at one point and I tripped over the netting and gashed my knee and elbow. haven’t felt so low about attending a giant game since the yale bowl. Hey John Mara for shame!

i to was at the game on saturday and i will tell u one thing dont expect to see more then 40,00 fans at giants games this year especialy if theyb start to suck. giants fans live for tailgaiting all fans do. take that away from most and minimize for the rest is really gonna tick them off. one spot for tailgaiting. is that a joke ive been to games as early as 8am for 4 oclock games and we use about 10 spots and house approx. 40 people. we drink eat play cards and have a great time. most good giants tailgates take up a lot of spots. alot of people who go to games dont even go in till halftime they just love being with the fans and having a good time. a few people in my group dont even like football, actually hate sports but they still come cuz tailgating at the medowlands is great its one of my most memorable child hood memories. honeslty without tailgaiting i promise only me and my father wil be attending the games this year out of our group. 10 of my fathers buddys have sold there tix and the rest are selling them on sites such as stubhub. i dont thinnk giants fans will lose love for their team but honetly it might just be more convient now to stay home on the big screen get drunk eat and watch the game from home with all the guys. i realy think if this season starts going bad like last year giants stadium may turn desserted. i can honestly see that game week 17 cold vs new england giants sitting at 7-8 were just elimnated from the playofs the week before and no more then 4 to 5 thousand people sitting in the stands, and im not exxagerating i really mean that. the giants better go 10-6 and and have a strong year if they expect the stands full.

Are they really enforcing the no tailgating rules at the satellite lots?

What if anything are people doing?

A friend offered to sell me his season tickets last spring, I was delighted to accept the offer and truly looked forward to taking my family to games this year. We had season tickets in the late seventies and early eighties and remembered the great times even when they played horrible football. I also remembered the traffic jams trying to leave the stadium.

My friend mentioned a parking pass, but I could not find one. Anyhow, I drove to the Carolina’s game on Aug. 10th and breezed on to the Stadium ramps from the Turnpike. There were no signs diverting cars to the satellite lots southbound on the Turnpike, so my silly mind thought the game was lightly attended they were letting people park in the main lot. Like I said, silly me, we stopped dead in front of the Arena. I almost drove home. Finally made it to the satellite lot. Missed the entire first quarter. Those school busses are an insult and to charge fans $20 is criminal.

Once you park and get on the bus, its another 15 minutes (we did not have traffic) back to the stadium. They drop you off in Lot 17, a long walk from Gate D. There is no clear walking path to the stadium, you have to look for burning piles of charcoal and you wind up crossing car travel lanes. Returning to the bus, you need to dodge a lot full of garbage, moving cars and then wait in line. When you finally make to your car, you are confronted with finding a new way home through the confusing NJ signage (I’m from CT).

The Carolina’s game was perhaps 1/3 attended. Imagine a real game. Anyway, no thanks. I didn’t even bother with the Jets game and sold my tickets last week. Once this situation is more widely known, you won’t be able to give your tickets away. I hope it finally works out better for the fans, but its obvious its going to be a very hard three years.
Lets hope for some good football this season (in front of the HiDef).

    Jeff
