Wow!!!! Eli Manning finally rose up on his hind legs and barked back at someone who has become a major critic of his, Tiki Barber.
The former Giants running back, of course, made some critical comments during Sunday’s halftime show about Manning’s leadership qualities, or lack thereof, last year. That’s not the first time Barber has said stuff, but this is certainly the first time the quarterback has spread a little vinegar on Barber’s verbal salad.
“Last year about Week 12, I turned over the offensive
motivational speech to Eli and he was gung-ho to do it, but he was uncomfortable doing it,” Barber said. “I think a lot of it had to do with vets being around—myself, Jeremy Shockey, Plaxico Burress. He didn’t feel like his voice was going to be strong enough and it showed.
“Sometimes it was almost comical the way that he would say things.”
Having had two days to think about those comments, Manning wasn’t laughing.
“I guess I’m just happy that Tiki’s made a smooth transition into the TV world,” Manning said. “It’s one of those deals, I’m not going to lose any sleep. I could have questioned his leadership skills last year, calling out the coach, retiring in the middle of the season, that he’d lost the heart.
“You hear your running back has lost the heart to play the game in the 10th week, you can see that a little bit. But I’m not gonna get concerned. I’m just going to go out and play ball.”
He blamed a lot of it on the nature of television.
“It’s just one of those deals where a guy goes into the media and he has to say stuff,” Manning said. “That’s just the way it is. That’s the world we live in. We’ve just got to deal with it.”
That’s the fire everybody’s been waiting to see from Manning. Even if he doesn’t show it on the field, he’s taken a step in assuming the leadership of the offense with his outburst. Now, if he can just translate that into a few more completions this year…
Ciao for now.

The past few years, the teams have played like they had not leaders. That pretty much sums up Tiki’s leadership ability and role. I applaud Eli for standing up to this self centered and self absorbed and self promoting jerk. I think he scored major points in the locker room for standing up to him. BRAVO ELI!
Tiki was a good player, especially after Coughlin’s coaching team fixed his fumbling problems, but he was not a good leader. Good bye and Good riddance. I hope the Giants now begin to take on the play not talk personality of players like Eli, Amani and Antonio.
Nice remarks by Eli on Tiki’s retirement drama and calling out Coughlin. Tiki just go on with your life, I do love ya for the most part but you’re annoying the heck out of me. Go Eli!
Tiki couldn’t wait to throw Eli under the bus. A total lack of class. But then that’s the way he ended his Giant career so what could anyone expect.
Well, Well, Well! Hello, my Giant friends! Long time no talk. I have been on my summer vacation and away from the desk. For starters, have you seen that Dallas D!? Holy moly! They were lightning fast! Even the second stringers were hot. That Bobby Carpenter is turning into a real hitter. Maybe he will turn into as wonderful an a**hole as LT. Just Kidding. On another note, Kudos to Eli. I don’t like Eli much, but I am getting tired of Tiki Barber. I reckon him and Rosie drink together because he is developing the same annoying personality that she has. Maybe ABC should have recruited him to take her spot on the View! I saw him on one of the late nights the other night. I think it was Leno and I wanted to puke! Trying to be all funny about his wife setting out his clothes and then defending Barry Bonds! I think that Eli should blame Tiki for why he isn’t the leader he should be. Walking into a locker room controlled by Tiki Barber, a man who isn’t allowed to make decisions around the house so he compensated by acting the leader in the locker room. Eli should have walked in first day and extinguisded the ol’ tiki torch. I reckon he would be better today if he had. He almost seems like a puppy who has been beaten so much there is no hope for him to ever raise his head high. So, here’s to you Tiki! You make all of our lives so much better! We wake up to your noise polution on our TVs, we are forced to see you during football season without the pleasure of seeing you pounded, and your late night appearance full of defending doped up record breakers send me to bed with a smile on my face! Sick ‘im Eli!
Dallas Dave should consider paragraphs. Does Jerry Jones allow them? How’s Tony Romo coming along in his quest to learn to hold onto FG snaps?
Carpenter comes from good stock. His father had some excellent years as a running back with the Giants in the early to mid-’80s. Number 26.
Leaky Tiki continues to run his fat mouth, which matches his fat ego and self-centered attitude. I couldn’t take him last year, and nothing’s changed. For a guy who thinks
he’s all class, Tiki has none. He was a disruptive force in the clubhouse and always a secret whisperer to the press.
Tiki was and is a sneaky back-stabber. Good for Eli.
Ernie – Tiki is Teflon now…and rather boring. He was more exciting on the field.
Tiki was a great running back. His effort to become a latter day “Hedda Hopper” reveals a side of him that completely turns me off.
Good News! I talked with Jerry and he said paragraphs are fine.
As for Romo, franchise QBs don’t typically hold. So, to answer your question…no quest exists. He has however progressed quite well in this off season. Is he going to be all he is cracked up to be? Honestly, I am skeptical. He might be, but there is a good chance he won’t. One thing’s for sure, if anyone started comparing me to Troy Aikman, I would tell them to “shut it” right away. Those are shoes you silently grow into, not ones you are forced to wear by the media. Only the season will show how he turns out.
