Firing Back Belatedly

Remember that bold statement Tom Coughlin made in his introductory press conference in 2004 when he called injuries a “cancer” in the locker room? Remember how that was a direct shot at his predecessor, Jim Fassel, who was perceived as a coach soft on players? Well, Fassel had been quiet all these years until this morning.
Just thought you’d be interested in hearing his take on those comments, as told to Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on the radio. I’m not in the habit of plugging WFAN, or any other radio or TV station for that matter. But they seem like appropriate comments given the state of Coughlin’s injured reserve list. Fassel has some pretty strong feelings about them, too.
Don’t think they’ll be sharing Christmas dinner anytime soon.
Feel free to share your opinions.
Ciao for now.

Ernie, my opinion is that if these things could be
heard via Windows Media Player, more people would listen.
Hehehe, that is a funny clip. I would’ve liked to hear that whole conversation. I haven’t heard anything about Fassel since his good friend, Brian Billick, finally let him go.
Hmmm, if neither coach can get this set of Giants players to be disciplined and non-injurious, maybe the problem is with the players… Didn’t Dan Reeves have a similar problem near the end of his tenure with the players?
I think I heard Fassel on a FOX sports sunday morning football show talking about fantasy football picks for the upcoming week..I believe he said he was in Arizona at the moment….anyways, yea the 2003 Giants had more IR time than most Giant teams of the recent past. ALL of us whom went to Albany in 2003 wondered why players like K Hamilton was sitting around on his helmet during drills. He was not injured…. (I ran into him at a Gentlemens club that summer and he was enjoying camp!I wonder why? )
Fassel has to take the blame for the total team collapse during 2003. The collapse that carried over from the 49’er debacle in the playoffs the year before. Fassel has to, no matter what was said afterwards. He was the coach. Maybe, just maybe, its reasons like this that he has not been offered another HC job in the NFL?
I do not blame Tom Coughlin for coming in and saying what he said that day. I blame him for many other things since then
hey Ernie – keep up the good work and thanks for the platform to vent!
