Practice Notes

Just got back from practice, or more accurately the portion we’re allowed to see.
Some encouraging news surrounding David Tyree and his fractured navicular bone in his left wrist, though I’m not sure it’ll translate into playing time this week. But he was out there trying to make tackles on punt return drills, and he went out on a number of pass routes for backup Anthony Wright.
Tyree still may be a week away, but at least he’s working.
Jared Lorenzen took some snaps on his sprained left ankle and looked okay. But wide receiver Plaxico Burress still appeared to be struggling with his sprained right ankle. He had it stretched and did some agility drills on the side, but no apparent work in practice.
We’ll get a better idea on all after we talk to Tom Coughlin in an hour or so.
Also, no apparent changes in the defensive starting lineup, leading me even more to believe that Coughlin will probably start off with his regulars and switch in midstream to Aaron Ross if Corey Webster misses an early tackle or two. Could be the same situation for Kawika Mitchell at weak—side linebacker, who could be replaced by Gerris Wilkinson. The backup moved well in unit drills and appears ready to get back into action this week.
Now for your part. Tell me what the best thing that could happen this Sunday that will get the defense going. A quick score off a turnover? An early three—and—out. Set up a scenario for me that will result in a shutdown of the Redskins’ offense.
Be back later with any breaking news.
Ciao for now.

The ‘Skins 1st and 2d team all get stuck in traffic on the beltway and Joe Gibbs is forced to play members of the ‘Skins practice squad.
Sit Strahan and have Tuck, Osi and Kiwanuka come after Campbell with both tackles out. Hopefully get early 3 and outs and take it from there.
Get to the quarterback in under 5 seconds no matter what you have to do. It may spell disaster, but it will be exciting.
A pick for 6 would certainly help things out, however, I think unless he actually STARTS a few new guys, as opposed to throwing them in there after the damage has been done that we’re screwed. I would start Ross and either Madison or Webster at CB until Dockery can come back. When he’s back run Ross and Dockery, with Madison at the nickel position. Michael Johnson needs to be on the field instead of Butler. Johnson can hit…Butler can’t tackle. I do believe Kiwi needs to move back to DE to really have an impact, and move Mitchell and put in Wilkerson. Hopefully something happens, because I don’t believe waiting to put the younger guys in til we’re down is going to do much.
This is an absolute jerk answer but its still the best answer. The Skins D is a beast. The best way to shut down their team and their offense is to knock their QB out of the game.
The best thing for our defense on Sunday will be if the Skins offense decides to sleep in…......The Giants defense is a joke and the Mara’s should be ashmed.
Im upset none of you reporters have asked Coughlin about James Butler! HE STINKS!! everyone knows Ross and Wilk will eventually start. But S Michael Johnson (6’2 212 from Arizona) should get a shot to start because Butler STINKS!! he cant tackle or cover SO WHY IS HE PLAYING??
Johnson is a player Reese is VERY high on. he cut Demps and Reed 1 veterans because of Johnson. Every scouting report says his strength is coverage skills and he can hit and tackle. STOP babying these rookies start them already. Show the right message and put players out there that want to play.
Can you please ask Tom about if hes considering a chaneg at SS?? Michael Johnson??
Generating a pass rush. If the Giants fail to apply pressure, look for Campbell to have a “Hall of Fame” effort and be named the third NFC offensive player of the week. (Guess who won the previous two weeks..you got it! Romo and Favre)
Bench Strahan! He’s hurt the team enough with his selfish behavior and crappy play. Tuck is the man!
I agree with Jonathan…James Butler is a poor man’s Will Demps. He did some nice things last year on special teams and fill-in roles…but as a starter his inabilities have been exposed. At this point, it can’t get any worse so why not throw some of the rookies in there and see what they’ve got?
The Giants have had some dreadful draft picks over the past decade…especially defensive backs. Rarely do they find a late round gem the way other teams do…most notably the Patriots. They drafted these guys because they thought they could help out the ballclub…well this team needs help from a lot of different places right now so let’s give it a shot.
