Some Sound

Here’s a couple of bits of audio for your listening pleasure. We’ll start off first with Dolphins kicker Jay Feely talking about his free agent departure from the Giants—and don’t you wish you had a guy who was 16 of 16 in PATs and 12 of 12 in field goals right now? Then we’ll go to Tom Coughlin talking about how the players have already begun an important process to stave off the effects of dehydration on a long flight.
For totally selfish reasons I miss the heck out of him. He was a great locker room interview, and a real standup kind of guy. I remember when he missed those three kicks in Seattle, he got right out there and answered any and all questions. Not to be too critical, but Lawrence Tynes was nowhere to be found this week after he missed his third extra point against the 49ers. Just an observation.
Here’s Feely.
And here’s Coughlin. Sorry about the sound quality on this one, but the press conference was held in a busy hallway.
That’s it.
Ciao for now.

I always wondered why they let him go. Let’s hope that was the last of those kinds of decisions.
Ernie,
He may have been a good guy and a good interview, but, after that Seattle game, I was never comfortable with Feely in the clutch. (He also was the one who convinced Coughlin to try the 52 yarder against the Bears that Hester returned for a TD.) Add to that the fact that he got 3 years for $6 million, which seems to me a lot of cap space for a kicker, and the fact that he was one of the worst kickers in the league in getting touchbacks, then I think Reese made a good decision to let him go. Picking up Tynes may not have been the best choice, but kickers are a dime a dozen in the league. Didn’t Grammatica come out of nowhere last year to kick a game winner against the Giants and kick pretty well for Dallas the rest of the year? You have to think that Coughlin will give Tynes one more chance and then, if he flubs another one, he’ll find a replacement during the bye week.
I didn’t hear that sound clip. But I know Feely said that Coughlin’s new demeanor and Tiki’s back-stabbing have helped the Giants come together this year, with Tiki gone.
Any number of players are now saying what I was stating
last season on this blog—- the anonymous source constantly complaining to the press and hurting the team was very often the self-centered Leaky Tiki.
