And everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is expensive. I’m surprised they’re not charging me a couple of pounds for the jet lag I’m experiencing after a six-hour and change flight. Did get a nice view of Londontown on the approach to Heathrow, though. Flew right over Wembley Stadium, caught Big Ben and Parliment, with Westminster Abbey right behind it.
But sheesh, that airport. Endless. It’s an hour’s tube ride to downtown, where I plan to have dinner. Bet I wind up in Coney Island somehow.
Anyway, mark S James Butler (ankle and hamstring), RB Derrick Ward (ankle) and WR Steve Smith (hamstring) as officially doubtful. We won’t be seeing them tomorrow. Do expect to see Plaxico Burress, however, and that should mean curtains for the Dolphins.
Got deep into reading a good book about Lincoln and three of his cabinet members, and came across one of his great yarns that seems apropos right now. Seems just after the revolution, Ethan Allen came across to visit and found a rather unwelcoming crowd. So much so that they hung a picture of George Washington in the outhouse for Allen to see.
Allen said nothing about it, but the Englishmen, looking to dig a needle into him, asked if he saw it and what he thought about it. Allen responded he thought it was the ideal place to hang a picture of General Washington.
The Brits were astonished. “Why would you say that?” they asked.
Allen said, “Because there is NOTHING that will make an Englishman (poop) so quick as the sight of General Washington.”
Off to bed to catch a few hours of shuteye.
Ciao for now.

Ernie Palladino

Ernie goes to London to read a book about Lincoln. How
about Churchill?
Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys later did
well in the furniture business.
Everything I’ve read so far says the Giants were
really dragging yesterday with the jet lag, and
the practice field also is an hour’s bus ride away.
This is a bad idea by the NFL, one of any number
of them in recent years.
But, “England swings like a pendulum do.”

A travel question: Did Ernie take a Virgin
to England? Virgin Airways, I mean, if there
are any Virgins still flying around? Maybe
they’ve gone out of business.
Enjoy your trip Ernie! Can’t wait till the game, kinda exciting. I hope the Giants don’t have a letdown game.
Hey Ernie,
Hope you enjoy your time over there. Got a question. I know the Giants say this trip to England is all business and no sightseeing, but do you know if the players are allowed to stay past Sunday for a few days to sightsee and enjoy it a little bit? (Esp, after their big win) I mean they do have the bye next week.
I know what you mean about expensive! I spent this whole summer in Europe. I think all my pants pockets have holes in them now.
I bet it didn’t say ”(poop)” in your book.
I bet it didn’t say ”(poop)” in you book.
Unlimited:
Actually, the team doesn’t leave until 4:30 p.m. tomrrow, so they’ll probably have a few hours in the moring and early afternoon to themselves. They did do a little sight-seeing tour Saturday, I believe, so they’re okay as far as memories go.
