Spags’ Interview

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is on a plane right now headed home, so he won’t be interviewing for the Redskins head coaching job today. Tomorrow? Could be another story. After the team formally breaks up and the parade up the Canyon of Heroes culminates at City Hall, Spagnuolo could sit down right after that with owner Daniel Snyder.
The Giants would love to keep Spagnuolo around, especially after the way he got the defense straightened out after that disastrous two-game start in which in gave up 80 points. But Jerry Reese fell short of saying he’d offer him an assistant head coach’s spot similar to the one that allowed Dallas to keep Jason Garrett from Miami’s grasp.
“We’ll make every effort to keep him,” Reese said. “We sure don’t want to play against him with the Redskins because we know what he’ll bring to the table. If he gets a shot at a head coach’s job, godspeed.”
The current frontrunners for that job are former Giants coach Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci, and Ron Meeks.
Ciao for now.

Ernie Palladino

It’d really be a shame to lose him… I would be surprised if they didnt go with someone offensive minded though, since the east has 3 strong offensive teams, and the Skins need to keep up.
your team stinks. Ernie did you realy think I would be
gone. this season comming up to let all giants fans know
im going to be a thorn in your side.
I have questions does the Nfl channel show reruns of the
giants 1-12-1 season? what would it be like if
Jack Tatum hit eli manning? does anybody rember nov 19 , 1977 anybody rember that game? Does anybody happen to
know does the Nfl channel rerun the 1984 and 85 playoff games against the 49ers and Bears gotta love the 21-0 game.
what about last years playoff game against philadelphia?
how would you people feel if the jets knocked manning
out for 6 weeks in the exhibation game?
Giantshater:
I love ya, dude! And I generally like to keep a professional distance from other people’s opinions. But I do have to say, on behalf of all the folks who patronize this blog, there is only one word that comes to mind when I read your post.
“SCOREBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!”
hey Ernie what week will the giants get eliminated from
the playoffs? or will they get back to the big game maybe
against the Patroits , maybe the colts , Maybe the Raiders
maybe against the Steelers or maybe the Ravens. wouldn’t it
be great if my Raiders beat your giants we would be then 4-2 and your team would be 3-2 but you realy deserve to be 0-5. How do you feel knowing this is yankee town. ya see
there’s the same amount of people year round but in sports
stores ther’s more out of town merchandise like a person can
walk into a store and buy a Houston texan’s freezer mug or
beach towel any team like the Saints , tennesse titans.
but if a fan wanted to buy a Millawake brewers or Kansas city Royals our stores don’t carry any team like that.
Maybe you can get Tigers , As , Cubs , Whitesox and Red Sox
but you see there are way more lesser popular teams in footbal merchandise sold than baseball. I guess that means
there are less giant fans than Yankee.
Unfortunately, I think Spags is gone. Unless they are willing to pay $$$$$$ to keep him, the NYG may as well begin grooming his replacement, from within hopefully. This is the money train here. Spags can back the truck up and the ‘skins will fill it up. NFL head coaching jobs don’t grow on trees, just ask Fassel. If Spags is offered the job, he’ll probably take it, or he would have turned down the interview in the first place.
That being said, I think that the ‘skins are a basket case and not a good place for your first HC job. Hiring assistants BEFORE I even interviewed for the job would be a huge red flag for me. Not to mention how they butt-effed Fassel, stringing him along with no intention of hiring him. Pathetic. Spags better be careful. This could end in an ugly way for him down the raod.
“i am not ready to be a head coach yet, but right now i would like to enjoy this victory” i dont think he is going anywhere
To paraphrase Cassius Clay on the Eve of his stunning upset of Sonny Liston for the Heavyweight Championship:
“They shook up the World!”
“They shook up the Worrrrrrrlllld!”
Congratulations, G-Men, on a gritty, unforgettable, march to the NFL Champonship!!
See you at SUNY, Albany in July!
The Giants should do whatever they can to keep Spags.
Belichick made two major blunders in the game. First, going for it on fourth and long. Second, leaving too much time on the clock when he scored his go ahead touchdown. His defense was tiring and taped study should have shown him that Eli has been very effective on TD drives late in the fourth quarter. At least one run inside the seven would have eaten up enough clock to stop the Eli miracle.
Paul it was the patriot defense..Belichick’s alter ego which lost the game. They didn’t protect the lead.
Paul, Blunders by Belichick? That would have
been a 49-yard FG attempt…at best a 50-50 shot.
He obviously thought he had a better chance than
that with Brady and those receivers.
The Pats last TD came on third down. They
weren’t sure they’d be able to score at all,
and Belichick obviously figured the Giants
could stop a run and call time out themselves.
I think Reese would be crazy not to offer him an Assistant HC gig. Give TC a 3 or 4 year deal and write a new contract up for Spags that will make him the heir to the throne. It would be a major loss to lose Spags. More than TC, more than Shockey….it would be devistating.
I know its early but I’m already looking forward to seeing who Reese looks into to improve our roster. We need to replace Butler. These are guys who I’d like Reese to look at.
Maybe we dont sign any of them but I’d be happy with any of these guys.—->

Teetime, true but he should have seen it coming and used more of the clock.
Del 85, Belichick must have thought he would catch the Giants off guard by going for it, but the odds on completing fourth and 13 are much worse than 50-50 especially when your QB has been having a bad day. I do feel that Belichick was concerned about whether he could score that last TD because his offense had so much difficulty during the game, but he had a first down on the seven and his team had been moving the ball well. One less time out and the Giants very well could have run out of time before they scored the winning TD. Would the Pats have gone for it on fourth and goal if it came to that rather than kick a tying field goal? He’d have to after his fourth and long decision earlier.
Everybody knows that Fassel knows more football than Spags and Tom, Snyder should grab Fassel FAST!
