Question For You

March

Now that the Giants have addressed safety, backup quarterback, and linebacker in free agency, what would you like to see them do next? Or, to flip it around, have they done enough, and should they re-stock the remainder of their needs and wants through the draft?

All theories, observations, and opinions welcome.

Also, don’t forget to enter our FREE, FREE, FREE NCAA brackets at Lohud.com/brackets. No money going out, $10,000 coming back to you if you fill out the brackets perfectly. Can’t beat that. So get picking!

Ciao for now.

Two areas of primary concern on defense …

OLB: would love to hear a status report on Kiwanuka’s comeback from a broken leg. Also, if Strahan retires, does Kiwi then go back to DE? Either way, even with the signing of Danny Clark and continued growth of Wilkinson, depth is needed.

S: need to draft one, as there is little depth there as well. Butler seems like a career backup type, Knight is a stop-gap measure, and Michael Johnson shows promise but is not yet ready to be an every-down NFL safety.

The only need the Giants addressed was backup QB. Clark and Knight are not the solution at LB and safety. This defense has taken a major step backwards if both these guys are starting nextseason. I was hoping Reese would do more this off season. It’s highly unlikely we will fill both these needs through the draft picking last in every round

  3. B-REED in Syracuse

I think the Giants have added much needed depth at LB and have found a saftey that will fill in nicely for Gibril Wilson for 1-2 years. I may be in the minority but Wilson was decent on his best day but no where near great and is now an extremely overpaid average saftey. I love that the Giants now have a “type” of player they want involved in their organization. I truly believe under the leadership of Reese and Coughlin, we will continue to be competitive for years to come.

I’m undecided on which way to go in the draft. There aren’t many quality safteys in this years draft, we probably could get a solid LB in our position, or add some depth at offensive guard with the kid out of Virginia, if he is still there. Either way I think management has put us in position to draft the best available player…

The only position I’d like to see upgraded on offense is receiver. A mid-round pick and/or a FA pickup when teams reorganize their rosters after the draft.

I believe that our most pressing needs remain on defense, at linebacker, safety and corner, in that order.

I doubt Strahan is coming back and therefore Kiwi will be used primarily as a DE. His experiment at LB will serve him well, allowing Spags to use him in that roll when the situation calls for it. Given that, our draft focus should be on linebackers.

We also need more competition/depth at safety and that should be addressed in the draft after linebacker.

With the exception of two magical catches in XLII, Tyree has been an underachiever at WR. If all you knew about him was his size, speed and tackling ability, you’d think he was a safety and I think the Giants should give that option a chance. If he’s willing to learn, I think he could be very good in that position. It happens more and more in the NFL, most recently with Klecko being signed as a fullback.

then need addtl LB and Secondary help. those are there top priorities, then just the usual depth.

even if strahan comes back they need addtl LB help and need to add a CB and a Safety…

    Very happy

The Giants did not overpay for Gibril Wilson…they brought in a seasoned Vet at a discount.

The Giants re-signed rb D Ward to complete the backfield depth they had and still need.

The Giants signed vet Qb David Carr for next to nothing on the open market…that move might push Eli to be even less “skittish” whilst giving a valid option if injury strikes.

The Giants allowed DE/DT William Joseph to leave to the Al Davis’s. Addition by subtraction there.

    I can’t wait for the draft…

it was awesome to have 4 de’s in on passing downs.first four rounds should be de,lb cb, safety in any order, let spags decide if kawinuka can be special at lb.if he could be special at de or lb which would you prefer?

I was hoping the Giants would’ve made one big splash, at least. It seems like Reese thinks he can just add supporting players in free agency and then hit it big in the draft every year. Giants are not known to have good drafts, so just because they had a great draft last year doesn’t make it a change in pattern. The Giants are lucky because they didn’t have any major players go into free agency this year. Else, they would’ve been in big trouble.

But, I think they are in good shape. I’m just happy they kept Spags.

Btw, no need to enter the Lohud Free March Madness Contest. I have already submitted the winning $10,000 entry. Haha.

Getting a big name playmaker in the secondary would have been nice, but I do not think it was absolutely necessary with Spags’ team oriented defensive schemes. The retreads that they signed should suffice for a year or two. Drafting a safety who could be brought along to team with Johnson down the road would be trhe best choice to me. Also, Tyree at safety? Intersting thought and not a bad idea. Worth looking into. So far, I’d have to give Reese kudos for being able to plug what holes the NYG have, not overpay to do it, and build the core of the team via the draft. It’s how teams that become dynasties do it.

Since the Jints lost two linebackers and only signed one (Clark), why not consider signing a LB/Safety hybrid such as Michael Bouleware ? He could slide between the positions depending on the alignment, and would not have to come off the field. His FA price must be coming down by now making him affordable
