Do you know who Roman Harper is?

He just might be a new starting safety on the Giants by the end of the week.
Harper is a two-year vet from the Saints, and a player the Giants have reportedly targeted in their Jeremy Shockey-trade talks with New Orleans. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King and ESPN.com’s Michael Smith have both mentioned Harper in the past week as being involved in the trade discussions.
Harper had 90 tackles and four sacks last year. He played in college at Alabama.
It seems to becoming a very likely possibilty that Shockey is a goner, probably reuniting with Sean Payton in the Big Easy.

It might be a good deal, but it has a lot of questions I’d wait to see the draft before thinking of this trade.
this tarde would be a steal for the Giants…Roman Harper is a great safety, and hes entering his 3rd year….plus think of what Reese could do with that extra pick!!!!
this trade must be done….
EP,
Are you saying this because trade discussions between Reese and the Saints are heating up?
Or are you just refering to that bogus offer that the Saints made to us back in early March, of Roman Harper and a 2nd rounder for Shock.
If so, why would Reese be willing to change his mind now, for the same deal, after he already shot the original offer now.
What are not telling us, or are you telling us more than there really is to tell?
This has all the makings of a Rosnhaus saga. Hopefully we wont need to catch a glimpse of Shockey working out shirtless in his driveway with the media all over him.
Jake Long has been drafted by Miami. 29 more til we pick. Hint – it won’t be Jake Long and probably won’t be Chris Long either.
Of course that’s if we don’t trade up (or down).
if its harper and a 2nd then do it in a heartbeat…no questions asked
hmmm… no answer from EP. I just wish this info could be validated to some degree.
Why? Because as I expected the AP reported that New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis downplayed the rumor that the Saints explored a possible trade with the New York Giants for TE Jeremy Shockey.
I just don’t think it’s anywhere near happening. Who know’s though – there may be a blockbuster three way trade with the Raiders where we get Aso, Raiders get some line help from N.O., and Saints get Shockey. Everyone’s happy.
Wish it were that easy. :/
what a surprise…i couldnt agree more with ‘musclemenace’. isnt the purpose of a forum like this to be somewhat responsive to questions from your fanbase? Especially ones that are generated simply by the loopholes in your stories/postings…
its not like you have been inundated with postings.
EP where are ya when we need ya?
I’m not plugged in by Ernie, but I’ve been reading and listening to absolutely everything. My understanding, specifically based on reports from Michael Smith and profootballtalk.com is that the Giants asked for Harper and a 2nd rounder, but were rejected.
Smith said earlier this week on NFL Live that the more likely deal would be something like Harper and a late-round pick, possibly a sixth.
Whatever we can get for Shockey, take it. He’s a broken-down windbag who is more trouble than he’s worth. Oh, and we won a Super Bowl without him. Dump the bum!
I just got the new issue from Sports Illustrated. Thay had their mock draft pridictions for 08’. They predict the g-men to select Dustin Keller——TE from Purdue.
I would be shocked (no pun intended) if the Giants used their first-round pick on a tight end. Obviously, there is zero percent chance of this happening if Shockey is still on the team, but I’d still find it incredibly surprising even if he’s dealt.
Unless an offensive tackle is staring them in the face at 31, I expect the Giants to draft a defensive player in the first round.
jgold, that is a total fabrication. Reese has made it very clear that the Saints made the offer; not the Giants. Reese entertained the offer, but shortly after that is when he came out public to say, “shockey is our starting tight end [...]”
No offense, but profootballtalk.com is not a credible source. No way, no how. My sources, FYI: R.Vachianno, A.Staple, M.Garafolo and … hmm … I’m forgetting someone here.
Oh yea, LoHud’s own – Ernie Palladino (even more so when he replies).
Anyway, back to basics. Saints want to trade up, so their first is out. So we’re left with about four other teams with interest – Falcons, Seahawks, Dolphins and (i’m missing one – forgot). It’s going to depend on who wants him more.
As far as Roman Harper is concerned – not gonna’ happen.
Regarding the issue of whether the Saints offered the Giants a 2nd rounder and Harper and were turned down by the Giants, or whether the Giants made that offer to the Saints:
Garafolo said the Giants turned it down.
Michael Smith and profootballtalk.com said the Giants made the offer.
Peter King reported today on SNY that the Giants asked the Saints for Harper and a 2nd round pick.
Okay I’ve held back from doing a mock draft but now that its officially friday here’s my take on things.
2007 Mock Draft
1RD (31)- Kenny Phillips S Miami (FL)
2RD (63)- Tavares Gooden LB Miami (FL)
3RD (95)- Eddie Royal WR Virginia Tech
4RD (130)- Red Bryant DT Texas A&M
5RD (165)- Trae Williams CB South Florida
6RD (194)- Larry Grant LB Ohio St.
6RD (198)- Corey Clark OT Texas A&M
6RD (199)- Dowayne Davis S Syracuse
What do you think?
i think its 2008 buddy
I love how everyone is down on shock great fans you are. How fast you are to forget what he has done for us. He gets hurt the Giants make an out of this world run to a superbowl victory and every forgets who this guy is. And Kevin Boss is no starter Im sorry he is a great number 2 TE. The Giants now have no TE that can block. Shock does it all and he will be traded for a bunch of nothing. When its week 5 and the Giants cant spread the field and score in the redzone this will be the reason why. This trade sucks for so many reasons.
