For richer or for poorer…

The Giants will finally get their Super Bowl rings tomorrow night during a ring ceremony at Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue store.

Four players, Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, Amani Toomer and Shaun O’Hara, helped jewelers design the ring.

And it’s big, with 1.5 carats in diamonds. This ceremony means that the celebrations are drawing to an end. Earlier in the year, most of the team appeared at the White House for the annual presidential congrats. But soon it will be back to work trying to add another ring to the mix.

    Where’s Ernie?

Does it look better than the Mr and Mrs Manning’s new wedding rings. If it does I’m sure his wife is not complaining. Is Tyree going to get a chance to have a bigger part next season or is his year of fame over?

How do the rings compare to past rings? Bigger, smaller, more diamonds, fewer diamonds? Different kind of diamonds? Why were those four chosen to decide on the design? Did they seek input from other people? Football expertise and ring design don’t go hand-in-hand in my mind.

    Yeah, where’s Ernie?

ESPN did a great graphic story (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/rings) about the story behind each Super Bowl ring. It has pictures of each one and you can see how it evolved from a kind of class ring to the 18-pound, diamond-loaded icicles of today. (Only a slight exaggeration…)

And the players “helped” actual jewelers, in addition to Reese and Coughlin, in the design.
