Strahan speaks

June
10

After a day where he was praised by teammates, and received emails and texts from friends and athletes from every corner, Michael Strahan spoke for himself.

He talked about all the reasons leading up to the decision, including a Super Bowl ring and wanting the young Giants to get a chance to set the agenda—not to play behind him out of “nostalgia.” Strahan said it was a tough decision to make since he still feels he can physically compete, could make it through the wear and tear of another year.

“I’ve been blessed with great health for the most part,” Strahan said. “Maybe after 15 years the man upstairs said ‘Michael, I let you stick around for 15 years, I gave you a ring, now don’t be stupid.’ I’m trying not to be stupid.”

I took this shot of him in the interview room after the press conference was done and he was about to go upstairs with his agent and front office people. He seemed to take a look around as the cameras were being taken down, and said goodbye to some of the reporters who had covered him for a good part of that 15 year career.

Good Luck to Strahan. I heard he might go to work at Fox.

    Jack,
You are right. I spoke with a few football broadcast insiders today and that’s the conventional wisdom. Fox does NFC games, so that’s what he knows best. I imagine he will thrive in that environment.

I wonder who will rise up to be the new team leader.
