Hey everyone, Alex Myers here. I just got off a conference call regarding Michael Strahan joining Fox Sports and the former defensive end seems excited about his new situation.
“I’m happy and fortunate to be able to step away from the football field leaving the world champions and join the world champions of NFL broadcasting,” he said.”I couldn’t pick a better place to showcase what I can do.”
Strahan will join Fox’s ultra popular pregame show, Fox NFL Sunday, that features Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson and host, Curt Menefee. It will be the first time that the show will have a five-person desk.
“Why now to add fifth member? We found the perfect fit,” Ed Goren, the president of Fox Sports, said.
Strahan sounded in great spirits, joking about his golf game among other things. He felt this football-related job will help him transition into retirement from playing the game.
“I think it will make it easier, it’s always hard to go cold turkey,” he said. “It’s going to be difficult, but at some point, you have to make that switch.”
He also had a great quote when asked about dealing with the cold weather during the NFC Championship win over Green Bay.
“You could have stripped naked and we still would have been warm after that game,” he said.
Strahan understands the workload needed to be good at his new profession and he’s ready for his latest challenge.
“It’s just like playing. If I’m going to do it, I want to be the best at it,” Strahan said. “I don’t want to just be another player out there on the field.”
Something tells me it won’t be too hard for Strahan to continue to stand out, even if he will be performing under a new set of lights.
