More on the PSLs

July
17

I just finished a column for The Journal News and LoHud.com tomorrow on the Giants’ personal seat license program.

I spoke with John Mara, and with some long-time fans who will have to pay a lot more if they want to go to Giants games in 2010.

Jeff Gold provided the basics on the new seat prices and PSL costs.

The letters are going out tomorrow, Friday, in batches of 5,000 letters at a time. The Giants promise that they are doing it in batches so that they can handle the questions that season-ticket holders are sure to have, and that nobody will get any first-come, first-served priority until all of the current season-ticket holders have received their letters and everybody has had time to have questions answered and to return their forms and requests for 2010.

But, if you want an early preview on what to expect cost-wise, seat-wise, PSL-wise, stadium-wise in 2010, click here.

i would like to know how on earth they think us giants fans can afford these prices? arent they afraid they are pricing us out of the stadium?? $120 a seat is almost a 50% increase!

Season tkt holders must understand that the NYGs should not give them gifts. If the market for seats to NYG games allows psl’s and $120 tkt, why in heaven’s name should the Giants give them away for less? Why?

For some reason I have accepted the fact that I will have to pay $20,000 to keep my 4 tickets. I am however a little disappointed with the details of the seat allocation process. I really thought since we were being asked to start paying for our PSL immediately we would be more involved in the seat selection process now.

From what I have read on the website I will be told that my PSL is for a specific zone and I will pay them $20,000 between now and Feb 2010. In 2010 they will tell me my exact seat location. Why do I have to wait? You can’t tell me that you are building a 1.6 billion dollar stadium and don’t already know exactly where every seat in the stadium will be placed?

So I pay them $20,000 and in Feb 2010 I am not happy with my seat location. I’m sure there will be some options available to me. Well not according to the FAQ section of the website.

“What if I am not satisfied with the location I am assigned?”

“If you are not satisfied with your assigned PSL zone or seat location, your PSL money will be refunded, and your seats will be offered to another Giants fan.”

Wow. Nice customer service. I’m sure my $20,000 won’t come back to me with interest. When I buy something I usually like to see it first or know what I am buying before I start to make payments.

Schwabcycler NYG fans shouldn’t think they should get gifts? As a season ticket holder for over 35 years, sitting through the freezing in the good, the BAD, the VERY BAD, and the downright ugly, to price us out of the stadium so johnny come lately bandwagoners can hop in is a disgrace.

I guarantee you Papa Mara is rolling over in his grave.

also, Schwabcycler, no one was expecting a gift. A $2K PSL per seat was more than reasonable for fans.

The $5K per seat and $120 per game ticket price means that we have to lay out $12,500 for football tickets that we have no guarantee will be even similar to where we are now.

I will never be able to make it to a Giants game…. :( Unless I win the lottery. Hmm, I wonder how much high school football tickets go for now. Maybe I can bring my family to a game one day.

I don’t understand. Football teams make it out like the fans should be grateful the teams let us go to their games. It should be the other way around. The teams should be happy they have fans. We make any sport popular. That’s why soccer isn’t catching on enough. Oh well, there’s supply and demand and capitalism for you.

  7. Sad Fan

I have been a season ticket holder for more than 40 years.

What a sad day for us Giant fans – in a time when the economy is the worse it has been in years – gas and food costs are skyrocketing the Mara’s hit us with PSL’s. Wow!

Who builds a home without the finances to pay for it?

Did you guys take a loan from Franniemae or Freddiemac?

It is amazing that the Mets are building Citi Field without PSL’s.

Someone in the Mara clan did not do their checkbook properly.

What average hardworking family person can afford this?

Where does going to a “Game” fit into the family budget?

We fans have children to educate, clothe and feed. For most this is becoming more of a struggle on a daily basis.

The money should have come out of the pockets of the Mara and Tisch families not ours. You can rest assured that the Mara grandkids will still be attending the best schools that money can buy.

I wish that Wellington was still with us – I probably have attended my last game.

All those crappy days in Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl and Shea – all the support fans like myself have given this franchise – this is how we are rewarded – Thanks Maras.

I will spend my money on my grandkids before I buy a PSL

It took decades to get decent seats and now you guys want $20K – spend less on your country club charge accounts and let us who have supported the Team enjoy the Game!

What a very sad day for us all. Time to invest in a good TV.

This is a real low point in Giants history following the greatest moment in franchise history just a few months before. The Giants owners have other options….ever hear of investors???Make no mistake, they are only doing this because they know they can get away w/ it based on the club’s current status as reigning Champs and the overwhelming loyalty of Giants fans. But this is the type of scam that can dry up loyalty quickly.John Mara, you are no Wellington Mara!
