Watching the grass grow

I’ve decided Lawrence Tynes is kind of amusing.
Do you want to know what kickers worry about in their spare time? God knows they’ve got plenty of it on a practice field away from the rest of the group.
“The grass is long,” Tynes said a little while ago. “The fields are soft.”
Actually, this is a really big deal to anybody who makes a living kicking in the NFL.
“It changes where you’re going to hit the ball,” Tynes said. “I can’t even see the spot where I want to hit the ball.”
The fields are incredibly plush. And they were practically under water a short while ago.
When the rookies aren’t providing the soundtrack at meal time, soothing background music is pumped into the cafeteria. I thought one selection today was incredibly appropriate for training camp, ‘Everybody Hurts’ by R.E.M.
Got any others that might work here?
After the jog-through, Giants coach Tom Coughlin ruled WRs Plaxico Burress (ankle), David Tyree (knee), Mario Manningham (quad) and Steve Smith (groin) out for Thursday’s preseason opener in Detroit. CB Sam Madison (sports hernia) also will not play. It sounds like G Chris Snee (shoulder) and T Shane Olivea (back) are questionable.
“Basically, the 1s would play about a quarter, and then the 2s and 3s would play the rest of the game,” Coughlin said.
Tests revealed that Snee is dealing with tendinitis, he does plan to participate in practice tonight.
We just had a squirrel running around the makeshift press room, which provided a moment or two of entertainment. He was doing a pretty good imitation of a sportswriter on deadline. I’m told a chipmunk pulled a similar stunt earlier in camp and was carefully guided through an open door.
Of course, he ran across the courtyard right into a giant rat trap sitting in front of the cafeteria door.
And on that note …
