Gearing up for the big game

August
6

As we speak, the Giants are up in the air heading for Detroit, and yes, they are incredibly anxious to hit somebody else.

It’s a cliche none of us can hide from at this point in the season.

From what I can tell, we shouldn’t expect to see WR Plaxico Burress (ankle/contract issue), WR David Tyree (knee), WR Steve Smith (groin), WR Mario Manningham (quad), CB Sam Madison (hernia), OT Shane Olivea (back), LB Gerris Wilinson (knee) and S Craig Dahl (knee).

The rest of the roster should be on screen long enough for a ‘Hi, mom!’ Does anybody do that anymore?

In case anybody is wondering if Michael Strahan really misses training camp, I offer this …

While the Giants were on the field wrapping up their second practice of the day on Tuesday, he was strutting down the red carpet at a screening for Pineapple Express with Nicole Murphy in tow. I don’t think he’s missing the guys too much. And he certainly has no business wearing a ‘Talk is cheap … Never Satisfied’ t-shirt.

I’m not heading for Detroit to do the game, so I will have some free time in front of the set tomorrow night. I’m thinking I’ll keep the laptop nearby in case anybody wants to chime in and interact via a live blog when the Giants kick off the preseason schedule, but I’m kind of afraid it will be just me and the crickets based on the number of comments we’ve had coming in this week.

There sure are a lot of injuries at WR. So when should we start getting worried? :?

The only concern now is overusing the healthy receivers because they do get a lot of reps in camp. I don’t think it’s a concern going forward, though, because none of the problems seem very serious. As long as the regulars get a week or two with Eli to get timing down, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

A live blog would be a great idea. You won’t get as many people as Peter Abraham gets at the Yankees games but it’d be a great opportunity to get this blog rolling. If you spread the word around you might get tens to voice in their opinions on certain plays and things like that. Hope it works out it could be a great thing.
