As part of the new rules in place for this season, Antonio Pierce and Chase Blackburn will be wearing helmets with red dots. To even things out, the NFL is allowing one defensive player to play with an ear piece to get the signals in from above. I’m guessing it’s going to require some getting used to.
The second designated red dot player can only come in with the new wave headgear while the first designated red dot player is on the field. When both are out, they go back to signals, which the Giants have been practicing regularly.
“Being on the same frequency with the quarterback and the middle linebacker, you are hoping that in some of the places that we travel, that that is not an issue,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said this week. “You have to be sharp with your signals all the time, but it will be interesting to work a lot of that stuff out.”
I’m wondering how many teams will use the equipment like a NASCAR team. Seriously. Why not have somebody up top acting like a spotter. “Run. Off tackle. Left. Left. Left.”
And if you’re around tonight, watching the game, I’ll set up a post and we can go back and forth. I’m still kind of running around with training wheels on, but I might be able to answer questions and make a few observations and share what I’ve encountered in camp so far.
See you at 7.

Are the players playing better with this new rule or is it still a work in progress? See you at 7.
