Looking in on the Giants

Sorry, we’re dealing with some thunderstorms up here, which always slows down my internet service.
I had to watch Brett Favre talk his way into the hearts of the Jets faithful. I have mixed feelings about that whole mess since I was baptized a Packers fan. I grew up watching people like Scott Hunter and Lynn Dickey and that guy made it cool to wear green and gold.
Any thoughts?
The defense looked a little unorganized against the pass in that first series, and Michael Johnson can’t afford to miss too many tackles with Kenny Phillips ready to step in. Keep an eye on the rookie when he gets in. The guy covers all kinds of ground and is dying to run into somebody at full speed.
Chime in, I’ll keep my fingers crossed my high-speed hangs on.
Update (7:36 p.m.): After throwing deep so many times during 11-on-11s in camp, I’m kind of surprised at the conservative approach on this drive. You’ll notice, outside of Amani Toomer, the receivers aren’t involved yet. It’s just as well. If we see this group during the season, things are not going well.
Update (7:40): Eli Manning is done, and the starters are on the sideline looking for baseball caps. Anthony Wright has something going with Kevin Boss, and seems to be a couple steps ahead of David Carr in the backup race.
Update (7:42): Nice job by Lawrence Tynes on the kick from 44 yards out. Maybe the synthetic turf was too long.
Update (7:56): Sinorice Moss needs to keep making grabs like that. He made a nice play on the ball, and set up the field goal with a 46-yard catch. Moss simply ran by the defense and was able to sit and wait. He needs to convince the Giants this is going to be a breakout season.
Update (8:14): We are seeing a lot of Bryan Kehl, the fourth-round pick Coughlin and the coaches were talking up earlier in the week. He was busy on that drive. Even so, the Lions kick a field goal and lead 10-3.
Update (8:39): David Carr needs to stand still and deliver in order to get more reps in practice and move ahead of Wright on the depth chart. He’s gotten better as camp has progressed, but the 262 sacks appeared to have a cumulative effect in the early going. Carr seemed a little impatient during camp drills and got a talking to whenever he scrambled.
Update (8:57): Terrell Thomas gets to go back for seconds at lunch on Saturday for that special teams stop. And do you love how Phillips keeps showing up around the ball?
Update (9:22): I supposed Carr gets a pat on the back for that scoring drive. He didn’t run and hide. Wright looks more stable right now. Carr appears to have more tools.
Update (9:40): Coughlin isn’t going to be happy with the 2s and 3s on the defensive side of the ball. One good play. One bad play. I haven’t been around him too much yet, but I know he doesn’t like that pattern.
Update (9:51): It’s probably smart keeping Carr in there just to see what kind of decision he makes under pressure.
Update (9:59): Coughlin didn’t look very happy as he ran off the field after the 13-10 loss. There were too many mistakes. And the numbers at linebacker are shrinking. Rookie Jonathan Goff suffered a back injury during the first half. Oh yeah, in case you didn’t see, the Olympics start tomorrow. It’s been a long week already, so I’m off to find my pillow. Thanks to Jack for hanging in there with me.

Is Ward playing tonight? The Giants defence was horrible until now.
Jack,
Now you see him. ... Coughlin remarked earlier this week that he wanted to begin to sort out the running back situation. I think he’s got a pecking order with Jacobs at the top of the list, but he’s thinking about workload.
Is anybody competing with Tynes this year or is the job his? Maybe 44 yards is too much for him at this time of the year?
Moss made a fine catch but if this team has to play with Wright at QB this team wouldn’t make it far. Carr with all his problems sounds like a better backup.
Tynes is the one and only kicker right now. I’m pretty sure that has a lot to do with teams only being allowed to bring 80 players to camp.
I’ve read great things about Kenny Philips and Mario Manningham. Is it true that Manningham is out for the first two weeks of preseason?
It sounds like Manningham is going to take a conservative road back with a quad injury.
Kenny Philips is looking good but he could do better. The running game is really bad so far.
Great plays by Kenny he’s showing that he deserves the starting. Like he said Every team (besides the Patriots) had a chance to pick him but decided against it now they have to pay for that decision.
Don’t worry too much about the running game, you only got a taste of Jacobs and Ward is just getting warmed up after the injury.
Bradshaw is not bad but Ward showed big promise in the few games he played in last year, I hope he can return to running like he used too. Who said 3 RBs are worth less than 1 great RB.
I’ve been impressed on the sidelines with just how quick Bradshaw is. He’s got Road Runner legs.
Kenny Phillips is gonna be a beast.
Should we be a little worried about the WR situation with the injuries?
I’m Favre’d out. Enough!
