Giants to Strahan … wish you were here

Michael Strahan is keeping everyone on edge.
Though he’s thousands of miles away enjoying a Big Fat Greek Vacation, the retired defensive end was part of nearly every conversation in the locker room. I sense most of the Giants would be surprised if he rejoined the cause here.
Tom Coughlin has not spoken with Strahan.
His thoughts on welcoming the future hall-of-famer back have not changed since a year ago when the defensive cornerstone decided to skip training camp.
“If Michael’s heart is in the right spot, and he truly wants and has a desire to play, then without doubt, open arms,” Coughlin said.
And while they’ve declared Osi Umenyiora’s surgery a success, the defensive end has not yet been placed on injured reserve.
“That’s just because we haven’t talked about it yet,” Coughlin said.
Strahan does have plenty of supporters in the locker room.
“It would definitely be a good thing if we could get Michael back up in there,” Brandon Jacobs said. “Always. He is a great player and great leader. Why wouldn’t we want to have him in there. We would love to take him back, but I don’t know what is going on upstairs.”
Somebody has a calculator out.
I’m not sure how guys like Burress and Antonio Pierce are going to feel if Strahan gobbles up a lot of cap space. Their hopes for new contracts would greatly diminish.
General manager Jerry Reese was leaving the practice field when the media walked up to get Coughlin, but the cell phone was nowhere in sight.
“Nothing to report right now,” he said.
Plaxico Burress was again busy, participating in team and 7-on-7 drills.
“I feel pretty good,” he said. “It’s something I haven’t been able to do in the past year, go out and practice with no limitations. I woke up this morning and wasn’t as sore as I thought I was going to be, so it’s all positives and good signs that I can go out there on back-to-back days.”
Burress will not play against the Patriots.
David Tyree landed on the PUP list with mixed emotions. He feels like the knee will be ready to resume at game speed in three weeks. Tyree is allowed to attend meetings and rehab with the Giants, but cannot participate in practice for the first six weeks of the season.
