We’ve got the word, Michael Strahan isn’t coming back.
And it’s probably better the Giants didn’t have to wait more than 48 hours for the answer because these issues have a way of becoming distractions.
“This has been one of the toughest nights of my life,” Strahan told FoxSports.com this afternoon. “But after long deliberation and throwing around a million scenarios in my head for the past day, I think it’s best if I stay retired.”
It really doesn’t sound like there was ever a negotiation.
“We knew it was a long shot, but we owed it to ourselves to exhaust the possibility,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “We appreciate Michael even considering ending his retirement. He has a new career in front of him and we wish him nothing but the best. As we all said when he announced his retirement, Michael was and is a great Giant.â€
So there.
Now it’s a lot easier for Mathias Kiwanuka to concentrate on playing defensive end. Danny Clark and Gerris Wilkinson know they’re pretty much locked in as well. And everyone behind them can start getting accustomed to their roles.
