“I didn’t lose any sleep over it …”

Plaxico Burress hardly seemed contrite on the phone a couple of minutes ago.
The awkward conversation did not help to explain why he failed to show up for work two weeks ago, or call back in a timely fashion when team officials reached out.
Burress attempted to be accommodating, but he’s clearly operating in a different reality.
The guy was just suspended for one game, which the Giants won quite convincingly. And the next pay check will be short $117,000, so a measure of regret seems logical.
“I didn’t lose any sleep over it,” Burress said. “I got me some rest. I was able to get away for a little while, and chill out and relax. Things like that happen. I’ll put it behind me and keep on moving forward, do what I do, catch footballs and score touchdowns, get back to work.”
He didn’t quite clarify the family emergency.
“I just ran into some family issues as far as taking my son to school and things like that,” Burress said. “It was not like a purposely missed out. Things happened that way, and I didn’t feel any reason to explain to them what happened and why I missed because I don’t feel it’s really anybody’s business.”
Apparently, there’s more to it than just dropping his son off at preschool. Or not. None of the blanks were filled in, which is fine. A simple phone call might have made all the difference.
“I would still make the same decision,” Burress said.
And there was a short pause.
“Maybe I would’ve put a phone call in,” Burress added.
He did not dispute reports that he’s been fined 40 or 50 times by the organization in the past for various offenses. Most of it appears to be for showing up late.
“I really don’t know the amount of times, but I do know that I’ve been fined quite a bit,” Burress said. “Some of the demands they ask me to do, I just don’t meet. Do I have an excuse for them? No. Maybe I have a problem with time or somthing. I don’t know. I haven’t been able to quite put my finger on it. Yeah, I have been fined quite a few times. Has it bothered me or affected me? No. When I step on the field, it’s time to play.”
Does any of this bother anybody?

On the one hand, all I want Plax to do is go out there and be one of the best deep threats in the NFL (which he is) and catch TDs.
On the other hand, the Giants are really starting to develop the team-first, sum is greater than the individual parts, interchangeable players success that the Patriots saw this decade. Having an attitude like Plax has will certainly hold the team back from completing that overhaul.
Hey Mike,
This is like Marbury with some big differences. This guy won a championship last year. I’d say that say that, coupled with the 4-0 start earns him some ease up. It doesn’t seem to be bothering anyone on the team. Plax doesn’t carp like TO about getting throws, he just sleeps late. The team handled this one perfect. His back up caught a 31 yard TD pass on the fourth play of the game. Notice how Plax is not complaining about mistreatment. He knows why they did what they did. He got his ankle some rest and Sinorice Moss had his coming out party!
I think we’re beginning to realize why another team agreed to let Plaxico go.
I don’t mind until it becomes public and starts affecting the team because the media and public jumps on it. Who knew he had been fined 40+ times already. Who cared when he was playing hurt and helping the team win a Super Bowl. But now that he’s been publicly reprimanded, it’s getting annoying. And then you start getting anonymous comments from players.
I still like him better than TO then. Plax doesn’t complain to the media or cry in front of everyone about his love for his QB.
