So the Giants come out and fire down the left sideline to Domenik Hixon.
Foreshadowing?
It was slightly overthrown, but Eli Manning and Hixon were perfectly in sync when they converted those timely third downs. And the ball Toomer caught literally carried him into the end zone. Perfect. If this keeps up Burress might shoot his flat screen.
(Update 1:27 p.m.) How about Kenny Phillips making two big tackles short of a first down? Shaun O’Hara got up and limped off after Brandon Jacobs landed on his left knee. That would be a big loss to the offensive line.
(Update 2:04) I bet Michael Johnson is going to feel naked when they play back that Washington reverse this week. He was at least five steps wrong. And we have an injury update on Clinton Portis. He’s got a jammed neck and his return is questionable.
(Update 2:34) Hurry back from the fridge. Giants are up 13-7 at the half, but it probably feels a lot closer. Washington had a chance to steal momentum on that field goal attempt. Anybody else thinking it would help if the Giants dialed up a pash rush? I’m noticing with Burress gone, the Redskins have zeroed in on the running game. There seems to be eight guys up in the box whenever Jacobs is on the field.
(Update 3:05) Brandon Jacobs nearly doubled the rushing yardage in one carry. It was pretty important for the Giants to score a touchdown there if only to futher dampen the spirits of a Washington team that was kind of hanging around. That’s never a good thing. Portis has been kept under control all day, so let’s see if there’s finally more pressure on Jason Campbell.
(Update 3:38) Do you go for it on fourth-and-one from the 39 with 9:30 and three timeouts in hand? It’s a two-possession game. Jacobs is beginning to find some holes, and it’s looking as though a couple of mistakes along the way are not going to hurt the Giants. Again. We’ll be lining up in front of Antonio Pierce’s locker shortly.
