Getting back up to speed

January
6

I’m very interested to see how the Giants play this weekend after the bye week.

Sure, they needed to get healthy, but that’s a tricky situation. It’s almost impossible to simulate game speed in practice, so timing issues are a concern. The lack of contact is offset, though, by a chance to rest and rehab, and correct lingering mistakes.

A lot of it’s mental.

Remember those old Knicks teams, with Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley and John Starks? They used to coast down the home stretch and flip a switch before the playoffs. And they always seemed to click in the playoffs, up to a certain point.

When new faces took over the roster, the same approach resulted in disaster.

I’m wondering if the Giants, who’ve dropped three of four, have the kind of leadership required to flip that switch and hit the ground running against Philadelphia. I’m thinking last year’s Super Bowl win could lead some to simply assume they will be in Tampa.

We saw during the startling two game losing streak what desperation can do for a team.

“It is what you make out of it,” Antonio Pierce said of the down time. “I think we did a great job last week going over what we needed to go over as far as making corrections and getting things right for our team and then we just waited to see who we were going to play. Now we have a day to go in there and watch film and lift weights and see what we need to do with that. We have (today) off and then Wednesday we come in as a whole team and start putting it all together. I think it is a great opportunity for us. A bye week is what you make it, and hopefully we made the right decisions and the right choices and it is going to work out for us.”

What do you think? Are you a little worried?

I’m concerned. The Eagles seemed to get better and better as the game with the Vikes went along.

The Giants may be rested but I have to believe they will be a little bit rusty. The Eagle defense is a monster and McNabb seems to have found his stride. The Giants have to find a way to rush him into mistakes. They also have to find a way to tackle him. He just brushes off high hits. Someone has to lock his ankles together while someone else knocks him to the ground.

This is going to be a tough game and the Giants have to expect the Eagles’ defense to be on fire for the first quarter. If the Giants can weather that they will still have a tough last three quarters. This is when the Giants will miss Plax, Stahan, and Osi.

I’m SO PUMPED for this game. I’ll be at the Stadium for this one! I was outwardly hoping we would play a team like Arizona, but inwardly I was sort of hoping to play a good team like Atlanta or Philly. I agree with Sam a few posts earlier, a run here would be so much sweeter with a win over the She-gles. But they gotta get it done.

Everyone is going to have to step it up for this, Donovon and company are going to be extra confident. Maybe that could be their downfall…

I am not concerned one bit. I fully expect this team to show up big time this sunday and for the rest of the playoffs.

    Paul,

the eagles played just well enough to win against the vikes, do not get fooled. If it wasnt for Desean Jacksons punt returns the Eagles offense does NOTHING, and they might have lost.

People keep in mind this ealges team has been very inconsistent all year, and a game they HAD to have against the redskins on the road, against a redskins team that had nothing to play for, they were HORRIBLE. ...

Againt I keep saying this, the Eagles do not scare me as a giants fan and I know for $hit sure that the players are not blinking one eye..

    Giants 27
    Eagles 14

After reading what Antonio said all week I feel that the defence will step it up in a big way!!As I’ve said knock around McNabb and the rest is done!
HA! notice no one has questioned Eli in the last couple of weeks!!!
Kyle have a beer and a dog for us!!! I’ll be locked down on my couch!!!
    GAME ON!!!

I wonder if Donovon will throw up on the sidelines like he did before the “big one”??? LOL!!!

I am quite concerned. Manning does not fair well in the face of pressure from blitzing Teams – especially Philly. Also the Giants “D” has a tough time containing a healthy McNabb and stopping a healthy Westbrook. In my opinion, the Worst matchup of all Playoff Teams for the Giants.

I’m always worried LOL, you never know with sports. Westbrook is scary though, Philli could win for a various amount of reasons and the Giants could win for a various amount of reasons.
