On defense and dirty rivals …

Hey all. Sam here. First, I wanted to thank everyone who joined Mike and me for yesterday’s live lunchtime chat. We had a great time talking football and I hope more of you take part the next time we do it (which, depending on how this weekend goes, could be next week).
As for the Eagles-Giants … One of the things we talked about on the chat was how the Giants will approach the game defensively. Looking at how things have gone for the Giants D against Philly this season, I wonder if they won’t take a slightly different approach on Sunday.
Consider: The Giants have yet to get to Donovan McNabb. Their attempts at pressuring him and knocking him off this game have, literally, gone nowhere. So is there a chance that instead of continuing to bang their heads against that wall, they might back off a little bit?
Think of it this way: If the primary concern is making sure that Brian Westbrook doesn’t beat you (and I believe that Westbrook is a bigger weapon than McNabb), why not change up the blitz package and use something a little less concentrated, allowing the Giants linebackers to do their best to keep Westbrook in front of them as often as possible? Westbrook is unbelievable at slipping into open space and then taking a short pass or pitch for huge gains. If the Giants push to get at McNabb and fail – as they’ve done previously – I think we could see Westbrook really hurt them. Laying back a little may be their best play.
What do you guys think? And, once you’ve weighed in on that, make sure you click here and join the conversation on the FACEOFF blog, where we’re talking about rivalries today. Everyone knows how big Giants-Eagles is, but is it the biggest rivalry in New York? Bigger than Yankees-Red Sox? Mets-Phillies? Those of you who root for multiple teams, let us know how you rate your most-hated rivals. After all, there’s nothing better than a little shared bitterness, right?

Sam -Mike thanks for the live chat!!! I’ll pass it on to other Giant/fooball fans for next week! Got to run more heads to cook! Have a great time at the game have a beer and a dog for us lil people! GO BIG BLUE! Oh Scott from Baltimore and Bulldog from Ocean 98 radio station say that down there that the Giants are heavy favorites to win and we NY’ers are weighing to heavy on this match up!! Different look on this???
Ravens by 10 pts!
Colour,
I agree with thsoe guys we Giant fans are making to much of the Eagles. The sports guy bill simmons makes his pick on his page 2 article on espn.com and I could not agree with him more. He says no way the eagles win this weekend and shows you how pathetic the eagles offense has been two out of the last 3 weeks..
thanks for the incouragement!!!
