Reese: Burress makes sense for Giants

I’ve heard the NFL is a business.
And with that in mind, it seems the most logical way to address the offensive inconsistency that slowed the Giants down over the final weeks of the season is to reinstate Plaxico Burress.
It’s cheaper than signing an expensive free agent. It’s faster than developing a draft pick.
Of course, a lot has to happen for the Giants to consider that move. There are serious legal matters that need to be resolved. Burress is due in court March 31. The league might also come looking for a pound of flesh in response to the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Still, in a perfect world, he would be welcomed back.
“If he’s a New York Giant, and right now he’s under contract with us, that really makes sense if everything worked out,” Jerry Reese said this afternoon. “But there’s a lot of circumstances involved with that and who knows what’s going to happen. We’ll wait and see what happens.”
Reese confirmed he’s communicated with Burress since the season-ending suspension, and seems convinced the nightclub incident has become a life-changing event.
“Everybody makes some bad decisions,” Reese said. “I think he’s thought about some of the decisions he’s made and I think things will begin to change as far as trying to make better decisions for himself.”
And teammates seem to have a open minds after seeing the offense sputter against Philadelphia.
“If Plaxico did take care of his problems, which I think he will and everything will be fine, I think he will be back here next year, and I think he should be because he’s not a criminal,” Brandon Jacobs said. “He doesn’t have a bad bone in his body. He made a bad decision and he shouldn’t suffer the rest of his career because of one decision, but that’s the way life goes.”

I’m sure Reese is super serious about bringing him back. Why tip your hand (“we’re going to need to do whatever we can to get a high impact WR in here”) when you can just spout some BS and the public will just soak it up? No way Plax is in a Giants uniform again. He’s going to be in jail anyway, so, Yes, Brandon, he is a criminal.
Any price victory.
plaxico would be welcomed back with open arms. he made eli. w/o its pretty dam obvious we are not the same. any judge in his right might will but plax on probation and give a 2nd chance. its not like he killed someone or robbed a man at gun point. he didnt rape anyone . he didnt beat someone to death. he didnt get busted for any large amounts of drugs. my fellow giant fans , he made a god honest mistake.
if this where western times we wouldnt even be talking about this. everyone carried a gun, cause you never knew what outlaw was going to shoot you.
I have to agree with Reese and Jacobs. Other than being lazy and a few questionable domestic dispute alligations, Plax has never done anything remotly wrong. He’s not Pac-Man where he’s trying to put hits on people.
He brought a gun to feel safe…its a strech but i can accept that. Next time he knows better not to bring it.
I can believe that this has scared him straight.
Probation and a 4 game suspension from the league to start 09 seems pretty fair to me.
But if he does get locked up (which shoulnt happen because there was no intent)then i think they go after TJ Hoshmanzadah.
Only makes sense.
Yeah Hoshmanzadah should be on their list, but that would mean that they will most likely not resign Dward.
Are you guys crazy?? Burress is DONE as a Giant. He’s a head case that will never change, always be in trouble with Management, and isn’t worth signing. Of course Reese is going to say that he’ll consider signing him – he’s got to protect his “value” to see what little the Giants can get in return for a trade.
Sign TJ Houshmanzadeh, trade for Tony Gonzalez, Franchise Brandon Jacobs and sign Osi to a long-term deal with the money saved on Burress!
Hopefully, the 2009 Giants will have enough talent to overcome the mediocore QB that they have and win another Superbowl!
while they are at it. Bring in Pacman for the defense. And I think Mark Chumura is getting out of jail soon. He would make a perfect tight end. Burress is a SLACKER who does whatever he can to get out of practice. Things must be really desperate at Giant headquarters now that they are out of the playoffs.
The giants were too PC in handling Burress, everyone jumped the Gun even the NYC mayor, where’s Bloomberg’s anger over Madoff? I didnt hear him once!
Tony G is getting way too old, they have a great TE in Boss for the next few years. Osi already did get a new contract
12/24/2005: Signed a six-year, $41 million contract extension through 2012. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed. 2008: $1.7 million, 2009: $2.55 million, 2010: $3.1 million, 2011: $3.125 million, 2012: $3.975 million, 2013: Free Agent
He’s good for a few years.
If they are going to get TJ then they probably let Ward go cuz that would be too much money.
The Giants have the following as FA’s this offseason.
Barksdale Rashad – Practice Squad
ButlerJames – offer a lower amount hes not a star but good
CarneyJohn – retire
CarrDavid – offer another 1 yr deal
DahlCraig – practice squad
DockeryKevin – same as butler
HarrisKay-Jay – injured all year so release
JacobsBrandon – show him the money!!!
JohnsonDarcy – let him go and draft a 3rd back up
McDougle Jerome – let go
McQuarters RW – let go
Ruegamer Grey – sign to a 2-3yr deal
ScanlonRich – let go
Tollefson Dave – resign 3 yr deal
Toomer Amani – Please resign he’s a Giant
Ward Derrick – let him go (but not cuz they want to)
Ware Danny – sign to a low 4 year deal (hes alot like Ward)
Wright Anthony – release
Wynn Renaldo – let go
There’s a lot of talk out here!! we’ll see come March!!
Did I hear someone say Pacman?? and Tony Gonzalez???
Please wake up!!!!
