Recovering from a restful weekend

Is anybody knee deep in Super Bowl hype?
A friend who goes all the way back to my Sega Genesis days sent me this article from ESPN.com that had me laughing for a couple of minutes. EA Sports along with a sports marketing group from the University of Oregon surveyed 15,000 NFL fans and determined those who played Madden ‘09 were 60 percent more knowledgeable about the sport than fans who did not play the game.
Of course, to get the full benefit, you have to play the game 10 hours a week.
I believe they also discovered that 100 percent of the fans who play Madden ‘09 have opposable thumbs. Kidding. I may fire up the X-box this afternoon to see whether it helps me understand the ramifications of the Giants possibly franchising Brandon Jacobs.
And, no, that’s not a rumor I’m currently investigating. Just throwing something out there.
Now, on to serious matters.
I’m still looking for a couple of people from Westchester, Rockland or Putnam Counties that have some kind of Super Bowl Sunday tradition. We’re doing a Journal News piece I’m work on describing what you do year in and year out before or during the big game. My e-mail address is mdougher@lohud.com.
Yes, time is running out, so encourage your friends and relatives to contact me, too, if there’s a good story.
We’ll put up a post this weekends so anybody from outside the area can share whatever Super Bowl rituals they take part in.

“Sega Genesis day’s” is bad, but mocking people for not having “poseable thumbs” is just awful. [Hint: apostrophes make things possessive, not plural; you-
I think-and I have opposable thumbs.] You write for a friggin’ living!Hey, it’s Monday. (Did I do that right?)
Well, you corrected the grocers’ apostrophe, but “poseable” remains.
Why the hell would the Giants franchise Jacobs? It would be expensive and would only be a short term fix. They need to lock him up long term so they don’t have a RB becoming a free agent issue next year as well. And it would also be cheaper because franchising someone is expensive and only a tool that should be used to keep someone around who would otherwise go elsewhere.
I think I got it now, thanks.
Da’Giants have to do what ever it takes to lock Bradon up for at lease the next 5 years at least!
I don’t think that you’re going to find that many people haveing “SB” party’s this year in the NYC area!!! As I feel that we were the bigest let down and the Cards got lucky!! Will McNabb ever win the big one?? more than likely not! Besides how many Giants fans would root for the route 95 cross rivels anyway let alone the Cards??? Look in the weekender of”TJN” and you’ll see no where near as many party’s offered at some of Westchester /Rockland sports bars from last year!!! As for me I’ll be working in Long Beach CA this weekend!
Go Steelers!
If anyone knows the NFL and videogames like I do knows that Madden has been garbage in the next gen systems. Here is hoping the new developers at EA will resurrect this franchise.
