Giants are courting help

So were you in front of the computer at 12:01 this morning, looking to see whether the Giants were on the verge of closing any free agent deals?
I see Gisele Bundchen is no longer on the open market.
Can you believe Washington, grabbing Albert Haynesworth for seven years at $100 million and re-signing Deangelo Hall for six years at $54 million? Is the recession over? Did the Redskins get some kind of stimulus package we don’t know about?
Are you on board with Jerry Reese going after Michael Boley, a versatile outside linebacker with enough quickness and closing speed to contend with Brian Westbrook? Peter King is saying $5 million per season on SI.com.
I’m not sure what to make of reports that Seattle defensive tackle Rocky Bernard is also coming by for a visit. Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield were really good last season. Does this mean the Giants are worried they might be losing a step after both underwent knee surgery?
Antonio Smith is the other name dropped in a report, but the Arizona defensive end seems a little cost prohibitive. Still, adding somebody like that allows the Giants to open a roster spot by dropping two of the reserve ends on the roster—Dave Tollefson, Jerome McDougle and Renaldo Wynn.
Giants free agent James Butler was scheduled to pay Steve Spagnuolo a visit in St. Louis today. Running back Derrick Ward is reportedly getting interest from Denver, Cincinnati, Detroit, Tampa and the Rams.
Did you see any wide receivers mentioned? Me neither. Maybe the Giants really like what’s in place already, or perhaps they’re planning to make a move up in the draft.
Stay tuned.

The Giants only have three legitimate DT’s on the roster AND Fred Robbins is a free agent after next season AND the draft is weak in blue chip DT talent.
Move up for a WR in the draft? To get who exactly?
Should they give up the rest of this year’s draft to jump up 15 or so slots for Jeremy Maclin or give up the rest of this year’s draft plus next year’s to jump up 25 slots for Michael Crabtree? Neither move makes any sense whatsoever when you actually look at the logjam of talent at the second tier of the WR draft class!
I would hate to lose Ward!! but it’s getting dicie out there???? Maybe Joe Gibbs is front-loading some of the money that Kyle Busch is winning with to buy all these heavy-weights????!!!
We shall see????
Giants should look for Ramses Barden!!!
Yes I want Reese to sign Boley. He certainly would help our defense.

I’m with you on the wide receivers, it’s a huge gamble moving up and sacrificing picks/depth. They might be looking to move up a couple of spots, though, just to ensure they get the second-tier guy they want.
Without excellent receivers Eli will struggle against the best defenses in the league. Given this, I would expect them to do whatever it takes to solve the problem. The absence of Plax showed how important a top level receiver is to the Giants’ offense.
