It took all of about five minutes for the judge to give Plaxico Burress and his celebrity lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, an adjournment to his weapons possession case this morning.
A new hearing date has been scheduled for June 15.
Burress arrived at Manhattan Criminal Court wearing a gray suit and accompanied by his wife and Brafman. The adjournment—or delay in laymen’s terms—was presumably given to allow Brafman and the district attorney’s office more time to arrange a plea bargain. The sides have been working on that for months, but published reports have indicated that the DA’s insistence on jail time has kept a plea from completion.
New York district attorney spokesperson Alicia Maxey Greene said that assistant district attorney John Wolfstaetter went before judge Michael Yavinsky to ask for the adjournment because the office was still investigating the case. She said Wolfstaetter told the judge there would be no grand jury action today, a prerequisite to any trial date being set because of the felony charges.
Should the parties come to an agreement before June 15, they can immediately appear before Yavinsky again for a final resolution.
“There is no agreement of any kind,” Brafman told Sal Paolantonio of ESPN. “We’re continuing to discuss this case. We’re trying our best to see if there is a way to resolve the case.
“Right now, we have not reached an agreement.”
As to whether Burress will be in a position to play this year, Brafman couldn’t say.
“Everyone’s asking me if Mr. Burress will play this year,” he said. “I’m not going to comment on that. A lot, I assume, will depend on how and when this case is resolved. June 15 is the next stage, unless there’s a reason to come back earlier.”
Brafman had no other comment when reached at his Manhattan office.
Any thoughts? How do you think this could affect Plax’ availability for training camp and the early season, if not the entire season?

Plaxico Burress will make his appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court tomorrow, as planned, but only for purposes of getting an adjournment in his illegal gun possession case. His attorney, Benjamin Brafman, told two major dailies in e-mails that “He will be there, but it will be an adjournment only.” That means the case will be extended, perhaps to give the sides more time to work out a plea deal. How long a period the court allows for that remains to be seen.
You might also remember that the NFL can step into this after the legal process concludes, however long that may be. It’s entirely likely commissioner Roger Goodell will hand down a suspension for violating the conduct clause regardless of whether or not Burress gets jail time.

So, the Giants announced their preseason opponents, but three of the four dates have yet to be determined. What we do know is they’ll start off the exhibitions with a nationally-televised contest against the Carolina Panthers on Monday, Aug. 17, on ESPN. Because a team cannot begin training camp more than 15 days before its first preseason game, the Giants will report to Albany the weekend of Aug. 1-2, meaning camp will start at its latest date ever. Second in line now is 1987, when rookies reported to Pace University on July 27 and vets reported July 31.
They’ll go to Chicago for the Bears in preseason Week 2 before coming home for the traditional Week 3 joust with the Jets. The Giants will be hosting that one. Week 4 concludes the preseason activity with a visit to the Patriots.
The exact dates will be announced in the future.

For all you Plaxico Burress fans out there, he goes before the judge at Manhattan Criminal Court tomorrow on his two felony weapons possession charges. No exact time, but the hearings start at 9:30 a.m. Could be just a short appearance to set a trial date, or a longer one if he cops a plea.
Remember, court houses are places of public meeting, so you can watch as long as the courtroom isn’t full to capacity.
Best part—no PSLs.

I’m out at brand spanking new Citi Field today for the first baseball game ever there. St. John’s-Georgetown. Not that that’s important. Just wanted to tell you guys this place is great. Very impressive. The Mets have created a real ballpark here, quirks and all.
Being a quirky guy, anyway, I love the stuff. They’ve got a right field porch that hangs eight feet over fair territory. And that covers a Wrigley Field-type alcove. It’s got a bunch of corners and crannies and a section of stands down the foul lines that remind one of the Fenway Park areas, where singles start to rattle around. The walls range anywhere from 10-foot-10 in center 18 feet in the alcove, and left field rises from 12 to 15 feet.
It’s gonna be a fun park.
Also looking forward to seeing the new Yankee Stadium next week, but I’m told it’s not as good as Citi Field. We’ll see.
If anyone came out on this rainy day, feel free to chime in with observations. We’ll be back to the adventures of Plaxico come Tuesday.

We’re on Facebook…I think! I now have a Networked Blog page there. Darned if I know exactly how it works, but I think you can now get a direct feed if you have a Facebook page if you become a fan of the blog. We’ll see. This is all very scary stuff to a dinosaur like myself.
If somebody’s out there with access to Facebook, maybe they can write in and tell everybody else how to do it. Me? I’m going to go back to hiding under the bed, fearing the next new technical thingy with which I’ll become entangled.

Lots of good stuff over on Jets Journal. Give my gal Jane an opinion about where they should hold training camp.
The Giants, by the way, are already set for camp this year. They’ll be back in Albany.

For all those who think Plaxico Burress might make things easy on himself by pleading down his two felony counts of handgun possession before Tuesday’s hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court, think again. ESPN reports some statistics that indicate that, of those who plea to third-degree possession, 80 percent receive some jail time. Remember, too, that New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg long ago declared the court should not only throw the book at Burress, but hit him squarely between the eyes with it.
Doesn’t look good for the wide receiver. It may not come down to a question of doing time, but doing how much time.

Unless you’re looking to spend mad mullah for the Giants’ special club seating at the new Meadowlands stadium, forget about getting a PSL. They’re all sold out, the Giants said in a press release issued today.
More than 70,000 PSLs went in the eight months since they first went on sale in July. The only ones left now are for the Coach’s Club, Mezzanine Club A, and Mezzanine B Club. They’ve already gone through about 28,000 on the waiting list, and will now begin selling to the remaining 93,000 in increments of 10,000 until all the PSLs are gone.
Fans will find out the exact location of their seats in the fall.
Oh, and just in case you were wondering if you should dip into that retirement account or mom’s nursing home fund for one of those remaining PSLs, the price per seat for Coach’s Club is $20,000, with a $700 ticket per game. Mezzanine A goes for $12,500 and $500 per game, and Mezzanine B will run you $7,500 per PSL and $400 per ticket.

Thanks to my boy Ralph V. for passing along that Rutgers wide receiver Kenny Britt, who impressed at his Pro Day this week, will get a private workout with the Giants. The Giants might just have a shot at this kid, as draft analysts predict he could go between No. 25 and 40 overall. The Giants pick 29th.
Teams can bring in prospects from their local areas for workouts, but can only have visits with those outside the area.
Exactly what determines how far a local area extends is unclear, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the number of congressmen from a tri-state area divided by its geographical circumference in square miles and multiplied by .05 percent of the population. Something simple like that.

No, he’s not coming here. At least not yet. Right now, according to Arizona Republic beat reporter Kent Somers, the Cardinals are still trying to sign the handful of a wide receiver to a deal somewhere south of the $10 million average they handed his mate Larry Fitzgerald. Boldin backed off his demand to be traded, which is taken as a good sign. But the Republic reported from the owners meeting that if negotiations with agent Drew Rosenhaus go nowhere over the next month, that whole scenario could change.
All of which means the Giants would have a door open for a trade. And they’ve got the draft goods, at least, with two seconds and two fifths. They also have two third-round picks, but one of them is a compensatory pick that, by rule, cannot be traded.
General manager Rod Graves said the Cardinals haven’t put him on the trading block yet, but they’d be receptive to offers.
Here’s something else to chew on. To accommodate a new Boldin contract and, more importantly, a long-term deal for franchised linebacker Karlos Dansby, the Cards might just have to whack running back Edgerrin James. He’s clearly at the tail end of his career. But here’s the question. Would you take a flyer on him to add depth behind Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Danny Ware? He’d be more a replacement for Reuben Droughns than Derrick Ward, of course, since Bradshaw will conceivably take Ward’s place.
Food for thought. The floor is open.
