I’m out at brand spanking new Citi Field today for the first baseball game ever there. St. John’s-Georgetown. Not that that’s important. Just wanted to tell you guys this place is great. Very impressive. The Mets have created a real ballpark here, quirks and all.
Being a quirky guy, anyway, I love the stuff. They’ve got a right field porch that hangs eight feet over fair territory. And that covers a Wrigley Field-type alcove. It’s got a bunch of corners and crannies and a section of stands down the foul lines that remind one of the Fenway Park areas, where singles start to rattle around. The walls range anywhere from 10-foot-10 in center 18 feet in the alcove, and left field rises from 12 to 15 feet.
It’s gonna be a fun park.
Also looking forward to seeing the new Yankee Stadium next week, but I’m told it’s not as good as Citi Field. We’ll see.
If anyone came out on this rainy day, feel free to chime in with observations. We’ll be back to the adventures of Plaxico come Tuesday.

Seems logical that Citi Field would be “better”. After playing in an icon of sports the Yankees felt it necessary to replicate the Stadium as much as possible while creating a new park. This left certain limitations to what was possible. The Mets on the other hand, after playing in Shea, had absolutely no desire to replicate anything so were free to create a ballpark that from all reports is great. The Mets wanted new and got it the Yanks wanted people to walk into the new Stadium and have it feel like “The Stadium”.
