Don’t be surprised

April
20

That Braylon Edwards trade talk is starting to look better and better, if only because of what’s happening in Cleveland. The Browns have not only invited good-looking Rutgers receiver Kenny Britt in for a visit Friday, just 24 hours before the draft, but the Plain-Dealer is reporting that the braintrust is off to Athens, Ga. tomorrow to work out fast-rising prospect Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia.

The Bulldog is said to have improved to high second-round talent. So don’t be surprised if, shortly after the Browns make their pick at No. 5, they announce they’ve traded Edwards to the Giants. The question is, will the Giants have to give up a veteran? And how good of a vet? As always, stay tuned.

I think braylon would be a fun new toy for eli to play with, and I have no problem tossing them a few decent draft picks, but the names being tossed around (aside from hixon) are too valuable to get rid of. If smith or kiwi need to be involved, i think we should pass and just try to move up in the first round to get Hicks. A guy who can make bad throws into first downs seems like a good idea.

Ern, any chance they actually part with smith or kiwi?

I don’t think there’s a chance at all that they part with Smith or Kiwanuka. I can’t see how Reese could justify trading either one. Smith is a rising star, the new Toomer. And Kiwanuka is way too valuable in the defensive end rotation, especially given the way Tuck and Osi have gotten hurt the past couple of years. Of course, now that I’ve said that, they’ll probably get rid of both of them.

Does it concern anyone that braylon has some issues catching the ball, and eli isn’t the most accurate passer around? Or was the drops problem last year not really indicative of his actual talent level? I feel like just as much of plax’s value was derived from his making eli look good as it was from stretching the field.

    Ernie, help me out here…

All I keep hearing about is there three USC LBs that are going in the first round. Now I don’t watch College Football, so it’s certainly possible that all of those guys are absolutely nasty game changers, that will each come in and produce in their first years, making all of them totally worthy of first round picks.

However, isn’t there just the slightest possibility that they were so good because there were three of them and as a unit they each improved each others abilities and stats? I mean, doesn’t it seem a lot more likely that just one of them is a true All-Pro, while the other two are above average players who benefited by playing with him? Or that they are all above average players who benefited from playing with each other? Why haven’t I heard anyone mention this? Was it that obvious watching all of them play that they are all so individually nasty?

I have a feeling these guys are for real. You might want to read my blog tomorrow, where I list the Giants’ areas of need and mention two of the three LBs prominently. One is regarded as the most intimidating LB in the Pete Carroll era, while the other has bloodlines the average player would kill for. While the unit theory is absolutely valid in most cases, I have a feeling these three guys are the real deal, individually as well as together.

    But I could be wrong.
