There were loads of Giants in the rehab circle. Sinorice Moss, Barry Cofield, Fred Robbins, Clint Sintim, Chase Blackburn, Lee Vickers, Corey Webster, Will Beatty, David Tyree, and Rocky Bernard all missed practice. Tom Coughlin can only hope that most of these injuries won’t carry over until training camp.
Those who did practice in the morning put on a pretty good show, though. Most of the passing was of the short-to-medium variety, with an emphasis on crossing patterns.
Free agent linebacker Michael Boley showed good speed as he chased down Brandon Jacobs from the other side of the field. And Osi Umenyiora had a great penetration as he skirted the edge and forced Eli Manning into a premature, underthrown dump pass.
Third-string quarterback Andre Woodson showed a strong arm in hitting fourth-year pro Shaun Bodiford for an over-the-shoulder catch behind cornerback Vince Anderson and Sha’reff Rashad. Tight end Michael Matthews came in a couple of plays later for a good catch on a crossing throw from Manning.
Matthews actually had a strong day as he later made a great catch in traffic over the middle off a pass from Woodson.
Fourth-round running back Andre Brown looked good cutting twice up the middle on a run, and Danny Ware showed he can catch when David Carr hit him with a dump pass under pressure. Third-round wide receiver Ramses Barden made a diving catch over the middle off Rhett Bomar’s throw.
Bomar, so far, has shown a powerful arm that can zip the ball in on the sideline and middle passes. But his deep throws tend to sail, something you don’t see from Woodson. And he underthrew one deep ball badly enough that Hakeem Nicks had to pull up, turn around, and snatch it in as Rashad swatted at it, Nicks showing excellent concentration to make the play.
Not so good was Manning’s concentration when, during a Red Zone period, he threw an interception right to C.C. Brown in the end zone for the first pick of the minicamp.
